Bill Clinton Defends Signing The Controversial 1994 Crime Bill

At an event in Philadelphia, Bill Clinton’s speech was interrupted by protesters who opposed Bill Clinton signing the 1994 crime bill as president.

As First Lady, Hillary Clinton championed the crime bill and the policies that contributed to a sharp increase in incarceration rates. Specifically, Clinton advocated for “three strikes and you’re out policies,” and even lobbied Congress for the now-controversial crime bill, which put more cops on the street and imposed tougher sentencing guidelines.
