Dr. Alveda King Reacts to Charleston Church Massacre, Calls for Prayer, Love and Forgiveness

Dr. Alveda King, niece of Martin Luther King, Jr., reacted to the horrific Charleston church massacre on “America’s New Headquarters” today.

King said that forgiveness will be key, as both the community and nation grieve and begin the process of healing.

“We have to pray for peace, work to have justice and begin to change the hearts of the people,” King said.

“It’s going to take us working through our own human spirits, connecting to the divine and with God directing and guiding us. And that’s how we can change the heart of the nation,” King said.

She echoed the wise words of her uncle and stated that darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can.

“Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that,” King said. “It’s time to pray. We must pray for America, we must pray for the world, we must pray for ourselves.”
