FBI Director Warns ➠ Potentially ‘Thousands’ Of ISIS Followers In US
The FBI currently has hundreds of investigations of potential homegrown terrorists under way, with cases open in every state.
“We have a very hard task” in trying to identify and stop anyone inspired to launch an attack inside the U.S. homeland, Comey said.
Comey noted as recently as two years ago that the FBI could focus on tracking those within the U.S. who visited jihadi websites, but a shift to social media by ISIS sympathizers has changed all that.
The director told ABC News: “It’s almost as if there is a devil sitting on the shoulder saying, ‘Kill, kill, kill, kill’ all day long…[They are] recruiting and tasking at the same time. … In a way, the old paradigm between ‘inspired’ and ‘directed’ breaks down here.”
As reported by Western Journalism, that scenario is exactly what happened in the Texas Terror attack. The two perpetrators, Elton Simpson and Nadir Hamid Soofi (his roommate), were inspired and perhaps even received directions to carry it out through Twitter.
On April 23, an ISIS operative named Mujahid Miski believed to be in Somalia tweeted “The brothers from the Charlie Hebdo attack did their part. It’s time for brothers in the #US to do their part.” He included a link about the May 3 “Draw the Prophet” Muhammad event. More
