‘I Wish My Teacher Knew’: Third Grade Assignment Sparks Social Media Movement

Third graders at Doull Elementary School in Denver were given an interesting assignment called “I Wish My Teacher Knew.”

Teacher Kyle Schwartz asked her students to finish that statement and share something that they would like her to know about them, and the responses were eye-opening, touching and heartbreaking.

“I wish my teacher knew that I loved her with all my heart,” one little boy said.

“I heard that one of my friends, Brady, doesn’t have any friends to play with,” a little girl said.

Schwartz’s goal was to better understand her students while teaching them to express themselves.

The assignment and the students’ replies have gone viral, touching the hearts of millions around the world and inspiring many teachers to plan similar activities in their classrooms.
