United Apologizes To Muslim Diet Coke Lady, Who Then Promotes #Ferguson, #BlackLivesMatter
United released a statement apologizing for the incident, and appears to have fired the attendant, while again, with careful language not really admitting that the attendant did anything wrong, but apologizing for even what ‘appears to be discriminatory’.
While United did not operate the flight, Ms. Ahmad was our customer and we apologize to her for what occurred on the flight.
After investigating this matter, United has ensured that the flight attendant, a Shuttle America employee, will no longer serve United customers.
United does not tolerate behavior that is discriminatory – or that appears to be discriminatory – against our customers or employees.
All of United’s customer-facing employees undergo annual and recurrent customer service training, which includes lessons in cultural awareness. Customer-facing employees for Shuttle America also undergo cultural sensitivity training, and United will continue to work with all of our partners to deliver service that reflects United’s commitment to cultural awareness.
The Airline of course is in a no-win situation. If they deny it, they will continue to be boycotted. So they’re hoping to stem the tide.
Of course, this was not sufficient for ‘social justice warrior’ Tahera Ahmad.
“Ferguson happened, ‘black lives matter’ happened, and what is it these minority groups were saying? They were saying: understand my pain; understand my injustice. There is a lot of pain there,” she continued. “And I think that’s why this story resonates with so many people.”
Ahmad is pushing for United Airlines to call this incident what many have joined her in calling it: discrimination, because “this is just one example of injustice that continues to happen and I cannot remain silent.”
After the apology, Ahmad said on her Facebook:
This is not about a can of soda. I was really hoping that after speaking with me they would have publicly acknowledged their lack of consistency in following procedure, the flight attendant’s rude and discriminatory behavior and accusations which led to hateful words, and the unfortunate lack of bystander intervention nor the flight attendants attempt to intervene and prevent further disrespect which created an unsafe space for me. Instead of publishing an apology for the discrimination and clarifying what corrective measures they will take to ensure that they will prevent this from reoccurring, they have dismissed it as a mere can of soda issue.
It’s unfortunate that United choose to cave, rather than fight, as Ahmad had made other incredible statements that seem to call her whole version of this story into doubt, including saying the white pilot blamed it on his ‘white privilege’ and then scrubbing that unbelievable post from her Twitter and Facebook accounts. Most of the MSM never saw it. They also didn’t see her connection to the Muslim social justice brigade and to Muslim Brotherhood-related organizations.
