BREAKING: @VTStatePolice Say State Office Building In Newport Is Under Lockdown. Public Told To Stay Away.


NEWPORT, Vt. (AP)Authorities say a state office building in Newport is under lockdown and police are telling the public to stay away.

An alert was emailed at about 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Vermont State Police confirmed the Emory Hebard State Office Building was under lockdown, but declined to comment further.

The office is on Main Street in Newport. It has offices for the Department of Motor Vehicles, state health department, Agency of Human Services, a rehabilitation facility and a bank.

No further information was immediately available.
