Michigan State Police say they have a “strong suspect” in custody in connection to a series of apparently random shootings that have killed at least seven people, including an 8-year-old child.
Police said a 45-year-old man from Kalamazoo is in custody and being questioned.
Chief Jeff Hadley with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said there is no longer a danger or threat to the community.
Lt. Dale Hinz said the man and his vehicle match the description of the getaway vehicle, a black Chevrolet HHR, and the suspect who fired shots at three locations.
Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas said their was a weapon inside the suspect’s vehicle, but he didn’t put up a fight when he was pulled over and arrested around 12:40 a.m. Sunday.
Matyas said the gunman was randomly confronting people and shooting them.
“This is your worst case scenario,” Matyas said early Sunday morning. More
