Megyn Kelly ➠ ‘There’s a Reason Free Speech Is In Amendment Number 1’
Howard Kurtz appeared on “The Kelly File” tonight to weigh in on the media reaction to the attempted terror attack in Garland, Texas.
Kurtz called out many media outlets for suggesting that the “Draw Muhammad” event organizers brought the Islamist attack on themselves.
“This is akin to blaming a rape victim for dressing provocatively, therefore she deserved it,” Kurtz said.
He acknowledged that Pam Geller’s American Freedom Defense Initiative group has said some strong things against Islam, but insisted that every group, no matter how “controversial,” has the right to speak without coming under armed attack.
Megyn Kelly stated that the First Amendment was created for the specific purpose of protecting controversial speech.
“There’s a reason free speech is in Amendment number one,” Megyn said. “It goes to the core of our principles as Americans and what we stand for.”
“You can hate the message, you can hate everything they’re saying … that is allowed in the United States of America, because, as the Supreme Court once put it, the answer to speech you do not like is not less speech. It’s more speech,” Megyn said. More
